Chapter 61

It was a very sunny day today and I had driven to the estate with Callie as she was getting bored at home and I was sure if I take her around the golf course. She will be very happy. I had invited my soul sister, Stella to come and join us as I knew even her son Hudson would enjoy it. It's rather boring living in that lakeside residence and her husband was out of town for some business meeting, so I decided to have a small picnic.

I told my housekeeper to prepare some lunch for five of us as Scott had told me he would be joining us there.

We drove to the estate which was in the heart of the city. And I was really happy thinking that I had taken a good decision to build the hospital there as it would be located in the central area and quite reachable for everyone.

As we pulled near the gate the gatekeeper opened the gate and smiled at me. I acknowledged him. And drove inside, Rob has been working here for many years and so I knew him well. Many caretakers came during the daytime to clean up the whole estate twice a week. And thankfully today they were not coming, as I wanted Callie to enjoy herself. How I wish Jayden was here too.

After parking the car, I held the picnic bag and got down from the car with Callie, and instructed the driver to be alert and observe the surroundings.

Rob had followed us after closing the gate.

He came and asked me about my injury and I was shocked that even he knew about it. When I enquired about it he told me that my housekeeper had told him. Then I remembered that Rob was my housekeeper's neighbor.

I wanted to ask him more questions but someone was honking at the gate and when I looked at it carefully it was Stella. Rob ran and let the car in. while I waited for them.

When they parked and got down from the car, Callie held my hand very tightly when she saw Hudson walking toward us. She was looking at Hudson with nervousness and I could feel it.

Stella came and hugged me tightly, while Hudson merely pecked my cheeks. After hugging me Stella took Callie in her arms and kissed her cheeks.

"Callie my darling, you are adorable. Come here Hudson meet your new friend Callie. She is aunty Emily's daughter."

Hudson looked at Callie and smiled at her and then all of a sudden he went forward and kissed her cheeks.

Callie went all red and she hid behind me. Stella and I started laughing. As it seems Hudson liked Callie.

It was very rare of her to meet a boy rather than her brother because she was homeschooled as she was really shy. She started speaking very late and couldn't mingle up with people easily. So we decided to take it slow and send her to school when she was ready.

We caught hold of their hands and walked towards the golf course, while Rob carried the picnic basket.

We sat under the shade of the tree and ate some snacks and even Rob joined us.

Hudson came and sat beside Callie and asked her to play with him. Callie was a little hesitant but after I coaxed her. She went with him.

And we sisters were left alone with Rob.

So I decided it was the right time for me to question Rob.

"Rob, who has been patrolling the estate during the night?"

Rob looked at me blankly and informed me that it was the same night guard who had been hired two years back.

Rob was the caretaker so he prepared the roasters for day and night guards.

There were at least ten guards around the estate.

"Rob tell me truthfully, has someone been coming regularly to the estate at night?"

"I don't know little Madame because I go back home around six in the evening when the night guards come in. Why what's wrong did anything happen because there have been no break-ins after the announcement of demolishment and we make sure that no one comes inside the estate.

"You know what kind of people usually break in right?" He asked and I had to smile.

These were all the lovebirds who looked for cozy corners. And the estate had many.

"Just check around with the guards and let me know Rob before we leave today."

"Alright, I will go immediately." He said urgently and left.

I looked at his retreating back and knew he was worried.

"What is wrong Emily did someone break-in?" Stella asked.

"It's just a hunch Stella don't worry." And I told her the whole story.

"You must catch the night guard Emily."

"I know but I don't want anyone to get suspicious. How about we go for a tour around the estate while Hudson and Callie play together." I suggested.

"All right, I am in."

So we told the children about our plan and they said they wanted to continue playing.

I saw Callie was blushing and so did Stella and we both smiled knowingly.

We walked a few steps away from them and Stella whispered. "I think Hudson likes Callie. I hope in future she will become my daughter-in-law."

"Are you kidding me they are just kids and affections change when they grow up but if they end up together, I would be the happiest," I said sincerely.

Callie's POV

Stella's prediction was so right as we did end up together. So, it happens that our fate was always trying to bring us together. No matter how we got separated. We did manage to stick together.

We were walking down the golf course and enjoying the view of the estate and saw that there were many guards stationed at different corners and I was happy knowing that they were seriously doing their work.

Finally, we reached the old buildings which were used as a residential area a long time back but it was ruined now and had to be demolished it was on a stretch. So we just started moving around and observing it.

Callie and Hudson were playing around and we could see them running after each other. Thankfully we had told Rob to stay with them.

Just then Stella's phone started ringing and I saw that it was her sister Steffanie William. Stella received the call and wondered. What a contrasting image both the sisters have one is so outspoken and the other a little shy.

After ending the call Stella told me that Steffanie was coming down to stay with her for a few days as Jackson Harris her husband had gone for a conference in New York and won't be back for a week. Jackson was my college buddy and I have known him for a long time. He was very good with his work and everyone had great respect for him in the Bureau and I was proud of him. Steffanie loved him a lot but I was not sure about Jackson, but along these years I saw that he did care about her and cherished her. I was happy for Steffanie, as Jackson was not so outspoken and never knew how to express himself. But when I met them now occasionally, I know they were meant to be together and always wish to see them happy.

Stella was older than Steffanie and was very protective of her but Steffanie was stronger than her.

We had reached the corner of the old building and looked at the woods ahead; it was full of pine trees. My great grandfather was very fond of planting pine trees and the woods ahead of us were full of them. I remembered the time when I would come here often with my father and play hide n seek with him.

"It's so beautiful Emily." Stella sighed softly. "It's a pity that it will be demolished and made into something else. It looks so dense. Why hasn't it been trimmed?"
