Chapter 147
Chapter 147
Rehearsals for Romeo and Juliet had finally concluded, and the school's production had officially begun its run in the city. The performances had quickly created quite a buzz. As the lead characters, Charlotte and Kingsley naturally garnered a lot of attention.
On this particular day, Charlotte had just finished her performance and was changing backstage to rest. Nearby, a staff member walked in and shouted, "Charlotte, someone is looking for you outside!" His tone carried a hint of excitement.
"Looking for me?" Charlotte was surprised.
Who would be looking for her?
Her heart was inexplicably uneasy.
Could it be Chris? Had Diana told Chris everything about her and Kingsley?
Charlotte's eyes trembled slightly at the thought, but she quickly shook her head, banishing the idea. No way, Diana wouldn't snitch.
As Charlotte was lost in her thoughts, an exclamation came from outside, followed by a wave of gasps, as if something significant had happened.
Charlotte's face tensed. She couldn't afford to think too much and hurried outside.
Outside the theater, a crowd had gathered at the main entrance, standing still. Charlotte followed their gazes, and her pupils instantly shrank.
In front of them was a sea of red roses, spreading out from the entrance and extending into the distance. Even more surprising, staff members were still placing more flowers, seemingly without stopping.
In the very center of the roses, a line spelled out in white flowers read, "Charlotte, you're the best!"
The display was both conspicuous and extravagant.
"May I ask if you are Charlotte? Please sign for these flowers," said the florist, holding out a card with eyes full of excitement.
Charlotte, feeling a bit overwhelmed, asked, "Is it possible to know who sent the flowers?"
"The sender said that he was just one of your fans!" The florist responded.
There were quite a few people around, talking and marveling at the sight.
Charlotte, nearly breathless, said, "The can I refuse to sign for them?"
The florist hesitated.
Charlotte was about to speak again when a voice from behind her interrupted: "I'm willing to pay ten times the price to clear away all these flowers."
The voice was low and magnetic, immediately capturing everyone's attention.
Charlotte's scalp tingled as she recognized the familiar voice. She turned her head and met Kingsley's enigmatic gaze, feeling a sudden rush of anxiety.
"That..."
Charlotte looked at Kingsley's face, feeling inexplicably uneasy.
However, he didn't meet her eyes. Instead, he turned and walked towards the theater.
Charlotte's shoulders slumped, and her delicate face wrinkled with worry.
What should she do? Obviously, Kingsley was jealous. How was she going to handle this?
In the VIP lounge, Charlotte stared at the tightly closed door, feeling momentarily overwhelmed.
"Even the door is closed. Does he really not want to see me now?"
"Charlotte, here's the key." Carl extended his hand, offering her the key. He smiled at her hesitant expression. "Kingsley left this with me before he went in. I think he wanted me to give it to you."
Charlotte froze for a moment, then burst out laughing. "Pfft. That's too cute of Kingsley, isn't it?" she thought.
She took the key, opened the door, and walked in. Kingsley was sitting in front of his computer, typing away, seemingly engrossed in his work. He didn't look up when she entered.
"Kingsley?" Charlotte called softly.
Kingsley remained cold, refusing to acknowledge her. Undeterred, Charlotte stepped forward and took hold of his arm. "Are you really going to ignore me?"
Kingsley's arm tensed for a moment but then relaxed, still ignoring her. Seeing him try to maintain his composure, Charlotte's eyes sparkled with amusement. She winked and, without hesitation, sat down in Kingsley's lap. His body tensed again.
Charlotte wrapped her arms around his neck and winked at him. "Still not talking to me? If you don't say something, I'm going to leave."
She pretended to get up, but Kingsley reacted quickly, wrapping his arm around her waist to keep her from escaping. Holding her tightly, he murmured in a low voice, "Kiss me."
He was genuinely upset. Realizing that someone else was interested in Charlotte had pushed him to his limit. Fortunately, she was here with him, ready to calm him down.
"Alright." Charlotte cupped his face and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. "No more anger, okay?"
Seeing Kingsley's demeanor finally improve, Charlotte slipped out of his arms and lazily lay down on the couch.
Kingsley then decided to drive himself and took her to the city center.
They arrived at the city center and found a decent-looking restaurant to dine at.
Since the area was so busy, reservations had to be made in advance for the private dining rooms. When they arrived, there were no empty rooms available.
Kingsley frowned, but Charlotte didn't mind.
She had always been more casual and wasn't overly concerned about such things.
She pulled Kingsley to a table next to the floor-to-ceiling windows, where the bright light and open view put them in a good mood.
The restaurant was very busy, but the service was fast. They ordered four dishes and a soup, and the food was served quickly.
"Charlotte, there's something else I want to apologize for," Kingsley said.
Charlotte looked curious. "What is it?"
"Are you worried that Chris and Ian will find out about us?" Kingsley asked.
"Actually, it's okay," Charlotte replied seriously. "I'm mostly afraid that they'll object, but if it does come out, I won't be afraid. I'll stand firmly with you anyway."
"So, would you be upset if I slowly gave them some clues so they find out about this?" Kingsley asked carefully.
